Aloha.
Thank you for allowing me the honor of serving as your Chair of The Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii.
The last few years were challenging times for our state and this coming year will continue to be so. Now more than ever business minded citizens must step up, speak out and take charge. The opportunity for success depends on us to help solve the issues of the day. I urge business leaders to come together to help your Chamber serve you better. You are the decision makers. You are the force behind our state economy and you are the leaders who advise our legislators and state, city, and county governments.
As your Chamber Chair I pledge to do my best to represent your interests. I ask each of you to consider how your knowledge and experience can help us improve our island life in education, housing and commerce. We will do our best to be fair, listen to your concerns, and represent the needs of the business community as a whole. We need your involvement so that we can represent you well.
The Chamber is an effective voice of business, but we must be willing to take relevant and meaningful stands on tough issues. The legislative and executive branches of government look to us for guidance on business policy issues. As a result, there may be and have been times when a position taken by The Chamber is not shared by everyone. We must do what we believe is right for the community, for the economy and for the welfare of our state. If we are to be a credible voice of business, we need to work with organized labor, government and the broader community to find workable solutions for our future. We need your support and involvement. You can be involved by participating on our committees, by being an advocate on business issues, and by participating in events. Help us serve you better by playing an active role in your Chamber.
On behalf of the entire Chamber Board and professional staff, I pledge our continued commitment to support business in our community and look forward to serving you this year.
